Tenders Called to Build a New Station for Lynbrook

Planning for a new station at Lynbrook is well underway with tenders now being called for construction firms to build the station through the $220 million New Stations in Growth Areas program.

Public Transport Minister Martin Pakula said plans for a new station were on track with the Department of Transport and Metro Trains now inviting? tenders with construction to start this year.

The Brumby Labor Government is taking action to deliver important transport infrastructure to growth areas and this is another example our commitment to improve public transport across Melbourne, said Mr Pakula.

The new Lynbrook Station will be a significant addition to the communities of Lynbrook and Lyndhurst where there is expected to be approximately 80,000 people living within five kilometres from the station by 2021.

By starting construction this year, we are taking an important step to serve current and future public transport needs by improving access to jobs, study and entertainment for this community.

A concept design of the new station is available following design work by Arup, in partnership with Cox Architects.

Member for Lyndhurst Tim Holding MP said passengers will have access to an inviting and safe space that provides connections for different modes of transport.

The station design improves passenger access to a range of transport modes with the inclusion of bus stops, a taxi rank, bicycle facilities and car parking, Mr Holding said.

The Brumby Labor Government recognises the importance of delivering important infrastructure to growing areas and the new station for Lynbrook is an exciting boost for the local community.

This station will be a welcome addition to the area and provide safe and efficient access to train services and the Department of Transport will hold community information sessions in the coming months.

The new Lynbrook Station will feature:

  • passenger shelters and seating;
  • bus stops and a taxi rank;
  • a park and ride facility and drop off zone;
  • electronic timetable and passenger information displays;
  • closed circuit camera security surveillance, and
  • pedestrian and bicycle access.

Tender documents are available from Metro and close at 2.30pm on Friday 11 June, 2010.

    Hi Tim,

    This does not show any detail of positioning of car parks etc (ie which side of the station? how big, layout etc etc) Details that residents that are very close would like to see. Is there any other plans for view

    Regards

    Troy

    I live in Lynbrook and go to school in FTG which is aabout 30 mins away from here , so i highly recommend the station to be hurried up and built so that transport for me can be a lot easier.

The plans will then be displayed at my electorate office and will also be available online for easier access.
    Full details of the LRA meeting can be found on their website here: http://www.lynbrook.org.au.

    Hi Tim, thanks for coming and presenting the station concept to the Lynbrook & Lyndhurst residents. At the meeting you mention the design concept was open for discussion. What would be the best way for people to make suggestions/submissions about that?

    Hi Melington Legend,
    Casey City Council has a grade separation at Glasscocks Road as part of its Lynbrook and Lyndhurst Development Plan, updated in May 2009. The document contains a range of information about Council’s plans for roads around the local area.
