Victorian Budget 2010/11

Local State Education

The redevelopment of Keysborough College will continue with $10 million in additional funding for further redevelopment of its Heatherhill and Chandler campuses. The $10 million investment is in addition to $20 million dedicated to the modernisation of both campuses in the last State Budget.

The funding will provide for a new senior school and administration facilities on both campuses.

The Brumby Labor Government is continuing to deliver on education, and ensuring that our children benefit from a modern, 21st century learning environment. Education remains the number one priority of the Brumby Labor Government, that’s why we are funding the rebuilding, renovating or extending of every government school in every community across the whole state

Police numbers

The Brumby Government has announced the biggest single boost to police numbers in Victorian history. The Government will deliver 1,966 additional frontline police over five years to make our streets and communities even safer.

The $561.3 million plan will deliver 1,700 additional frontline police, in conjunction $112.3 million to redeploy 266 desk-bound and call-taking police to the front line.

This announcement is on top of the extra 1,400 additional police recruited between 1999 and 2006 and the 350 police the Government promised at the last election.

Hallam Road Duplication

The Brumby Government will invest in local roads with the $35 million duplication of Hallam Road, between Ormond and Pound Roads.

This important project will make Hallam Road safer for local commuters, and reduce the risk of accidents, as well as reducing local traffic congestion. It includes new signals at Ormond and Sommerville Road intersections.

The Hallam Road Duplication is part of a $6 billion package for transport infrastructure in the State Budget.

Public Transport

Construction of Lynbrook Railway Station will commence this year, and plans for the new station will be released shortly.

Sandown Park Railway Station will also be staffed during the peak times by Metro Trains, while 20 metropolitan railway stations will be upgraded to Premium status.
