Grampians Peak Trail

While visiting the Grampians region last week, I was able to experience part of what will become the proposed Grampians Peak Trail (GPT).
Hiking from Halls Gap to Redman Bluff and back highlighted some of the stunning views on offer in this part of Victoria, particularly out over the Serra Range. I was delighted to see what will be a fantastic addition to Victoria’s exciting offerings for hiking.
Stage 1 of the walk will create a three-day loop track from Halls Gap in the Grampians. In great news for hiking and bushwalking enthusiasts, $1.6 million in funding for this stage of the project was approved by the Victorian Government and announced on 29 June 2010.
Eventually, the proposed 148km GPT will provide for a broader, 14-day trek that will help to establish Victoria as Australia’s premier destination for nature-based tourism.
The trail will traverse the length of the Grampians from Mt Zero (Mura Mura) in the north to Dunkeld in the south. The trail will include five new loop tracks designed to give walkers an opportunity to experience small sections of the track.
