Yarra Valley Tourist Railway

After 30 years, passenger rail travel is now back on track in the Yarra Valley.

The volunteers at the Yarra Valley Tourist Railway Society have done a fantastic job restoring the rail infrastructure and the Walker Rail-Motor RM22 engine, which has been off the tracks since 1978.

The State Government has contributed $500,000 towards restoring the tracks, bridges and carriage sheds of this great new tourism experience.

Tourist railways operate through some of Victoria’s most picturesque scenery and the Yarra Valley Railway is no exception. Passengers are treated to the unique views of local flood plans, dairy farms, vineyards, mountains and forests as the train travels from Healesville to Yarra Glen, right through the heart of Victoria’s magnificent Yarra Valley.

I congratulate the president of the Yarra Valley Tourist Railway Society, Brett Morton and his dedicated team for their outstanding work in restoring what is an iconic part of the region’s tourism offering.

The Yarra Valley Tourist Railway runs between 10:00am – 4:00pm every Sunday, on public holidays and from Wednesday to Sunday in school holiday periods. You can find fares, timetables and more at www.yarravalleyrailway.org.au.

great too see yarra valley running trains in area , this is victoria’s most popular tourist region it make sense too have a great tourist attraction like tourist railway running steam trains through wine region, benefits it will bring.
steams trains should run from melbourne too healsville.
I like too see South Gippsland Tourist Railway too be as popular and use the whole disused section as a historical tourist railway using all the stations along the line, restored as a historical attraction. Bring back steam trains too Coal Creek support South Sippsland Railway and re-open line as a tourist railway ,providing people a passenager service too Melbourne which is much need as urban growth is getting bigger reaching Casey outer east boundry’s. Save South Gippsland Railway reopen line from Cranbourne too Nyora as section not being used at moment.
