Last week I visited Omeo, one of Gippsland’s best kept secrets, to launch the Omeo Official Visitors Guide. You can download the guide from the Omeo Region website.

The Omeo Official Visitors’ Guide shows you the best places to visit, fantastic places to stay, and fabulous places to eat, drink, shop and relax.

Through it, you can discover hidden treasures like The Little River Inn which dates to the 1840s and is believed to be the oldest hotel in East Gippsland – still sporting the original rings where past customers tied up their horses, or the Omeo Historic Museum and Justice Precinct – with its beautifully preserved 19th century courthouse still in operation.

It will take you to places like Benambra – Victoria’s oldest permanently settled town – and to the spectacular vistas of? Mount Blowhard where you will find out why the name Omeo comes from the Aboriginal word for ‘mountains’.

The Guide shows you how explore the region on foot through wonderful walking trails like the Cassilis Historical Walk and through motoring routes like the Great Alpine Discovery Drive.

Another terrific resource for visitors to Gippsland is the Inspiring Gippsland Walks? website. Destination Gippsland has done a fantastic job putting together this detailed guide to the many walks on offer across the Gippsland region. Everything you need to know about distance, difficulty and facilities is available through the website.
